got to preview the new tasting menu deau is putting together at yhing yhang inside maydan market. everything touches the grill and is really flavorful. anchovy egg salad tartine was a surprise highlight.
Everything was such a hit, I guess I shouldn’t be surprised because of Holy Basil but I really was. I guess its because it seems like such a small establishment but the food coming out of there is top notch. The khao soi, moo yhang, and sausage were my favorites!
Since as a neighbor and friend, I’ve been at Maydan A LOT. It’s been amazing to see them grow into the space. They were my first hit on neighbor preview day and I pondered how the heck they were going to make it work with those little BBQs and the crowds that were sure to come.
I attended the Grand Opening last week after two weeks of soft opening and they were on FIRE!!! I kept shuttling people there just to see the show! It’s just as good as the big hearth!
$44pp for that is a steal! I can’t wait to try it.
tasting menu was some of the best Thai food I’ve had since being in Thailand last year. it’ll be worth fighting a stranger on OT to experience it. 8 seats a night and two turns, per Deau. still thinking about that tartine and the panna cotta.
Most dishes were stellar specifically, chicken wing, shrimp balls and pork being the highlights pork was insanely good. Thai spicy Caesar was also suprisingly awesome dressing is addictive. Weakest dish was the cold noodle and the breast was a tad dry (but it was brought to us a 45 min drive away) but still the dish as a whole worked. Cannot wait to try their fabled tasting, full menu and the tasting menu. This place rocks deau and joy are killing it! Also looking forward to trying more food at maydan.
I love the Cesar salad at Yhing Yang. I ordered it on a whim as I was desperate for a casual veggie dish (Maydan has several but the stands tend to more entree and snack forward). It’s a standard order for me now no matter what I pick up.
As for noodles… the Garlic noodles at Mel’s is as OG as it gets. Buttery, edge from soy sauce. People keep getting cute with their garlic noodles and they skimp on the garlic punch in effort to be more creamy!! These are worth it with any of the wings from either stand.
The Compass Rose bartenders keep notes on the dishes each vendor serves in order to offer wine pairing suggestions. I chose this Basque wine - spritzy, briny, green apple. Hubs’ old fashioned was “a nine”.
I don’t have much more to add than @hungryhungryhippos & @Dommy. Caesar is delicious, chicken breast is a tad dry (but just a tad, marinade is good) & the pork is stellar— hubs was still talking about it the next day #GoodIngredientsMatter. I also loved the garlic chicken rice, jammy egg w/sauce & spicy pickled vedge.
