Spent a few days in the DMV area on the East coast…
Unfortunately, due to my own lack of proper planning and random touristing, I ran out of time and didn’t have time to eat in DC.
Spent too much time museum-ing on the Mall.
I did notice a high number of shawarma, hot dog/burger, and soft serve trucks. Granted I’ve not been here in many, many years…I never noticed shawarma and soft serve trucks then.
This was an interesting jaunt.
Tucked in a neighborhood home is a lively restaurant that the locals love. It’s charming and welcoming. The chef notably spent some time at Pizzeria Bianco in Phoenix and a couple of other places out East.
Lobster pierogis (daily special)
The pierogis were great…lovely sear and totally hand made. Then things take a turn…there’s lobster, bacon, warmed sauerkraut, and a brown butter sauce made with tomatoes. There was a lot going on.

I love Lexington Market before the Friday lunch crowd rolls in. Easy to park. Easy to walk, and low crowds.
After a stroll to peruse the entire market, the decision was easy. A crab cake and some oysters for brunch.
This crab cake is massive, made with local crab, and has very little filler. A terrific crab cake. I would gladly pay another $25 for another.

Baltimore is a lovely city. I had a great time exploring. Never once did I feel unsafe. Much to my SO’s chagrin, I made him walk almost everywhere…since East coast cities are ideal for exploring on foot. I wish I could have explored the food scene more, but we just didn’t have enough time.
Places recommended for the future: Clavel, Yemen & Gulf, WC Harlan, Dutch Courage, Royal Blue.
For folks looking for snacks to bring home, I found that I had more success at the Harris Teeter (Kroger) st…
Also found the Fell’s Point Farmer’s Market on Saturday. Nice produce and some vendors bring out multiple freezer cases of proteins. I was incredibly impressed with the freezers of meat alone.
A visit to the DC Union Station Shake Shack was also involved. Also…East Coast Amtrak > West Coast Amtrak.
